I Want My Life to Count

David Brainerd traveled on horseback with his interpreter, Moses Tinda Tautamy. He worked in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and in other American colonies, ministering to the Indians in the early 1700s. Unfortunately, he contracted tuberculosis, and in April, 1718, died while being nursed at the home of the now famous preacher and college president, Jonathan Edwards—at the young age of 29.

David was grieved about one thing—he wanted to do more. The number of converts to Christ under his ministry had been relatively few. He wrote: "Oh, how precious is time, and how it pains me to see it slide away, while I do so little to any good purpose. Oh, that God would make me more fruitful."

God answered his request, and did make him more fruitful. His personal diary became a powerful inspiration to other ministers, and helped to stir them to great ministry. One man who was inspired by David’s diary was John Wesley, who founded the Methodists, which became a powerful movement under the hand of God. Other great names of ministry too were influenced by his diary.

Seek God! Ask him to use you. Even if you don’t see it yourself, remember that God can make a way where there seems to be no way. Tell Him, “I want my life to count!”
