Darn! Did it Again!

I am sure you know of people who just live their lives in the trash can. It’s that person that just can’t keep from jumping into immoral relationships. The one who just has to lie, cheat and steal. The one that just has to follow those cravings back into drugs or alcohol—or both. Jesus said of them, the "dog returns to its vomit", and, the "pig returns to the pig pen." Some people waste their whole lives in the moral trash can.

But Judgment Day is not going to focus just on those in the trash can. No! Jesus said, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the Pharisees, you will not inherit the kingdom of God. The Pharisees were clean on the outside, but morally dark on the inside. For the Christian, that equates to crying out for God’s grace and mercy, but not working at spiritual change. Paul put it this way: work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. He meant that you and I were to fear God and experience change for the better in our daily lives.

So what is your problem? What makes you say, “Darn! I did it again!” Is it gossip? backtalk? disobedience to authority? self-centeredness? callousness or inconsiderate-ness? anger? greed or material lust? obsession with food? sensuality?

Paul wrote, "If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit." (Gal 5:25) As James wrote, "Be doers of the Word, not hearers only, deceiving your own selves" (James 1:22) You have to practice the Word to keep away from those situations that make you say, “Darn! I did it again!” God’s grace helps you to change!
